3D THURSDAY – HOW TO MAKE A SIMPLE GUSSETED GIFT BAG

For today’s 3D project, I used some of the Waves of the Ocean 12″x 12″ Designer Sereis Paper to make to make two gusseted gift bags.

This bag measures 5″x 5″x 3/4″. I used one of the Basic Borders Dies to achieve the triangular top of the bag.

The birthday greeting is from the Waves of Inspiration Stamp Set. It was stamped using Granny Apple Green ink before being cut using one of the Tailor Made Tags Dies.

I cut a second, larger tag to place under the greeting.

I punched a hole in centre top of the bag and threaded some Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Tape through it. Then I threaded the ribbon through the greeting tags and tied a bow.

For the second gift bag I used a different piece of the Designer Series Paper. This bag measures 3-3/4″x 7″x 2″.

The paper, measurements and top edges all differ but the style is the same.

For this bag, I added an extra tag cut from the same DSP and placed it between the two cardstock tags.

These bags can be filled with all manner of goodies.

Tomorrow is Fun Fold Friday and I have a shaker card to share.

Until then, happy stamping.

WELCOME TO ANOTHER WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY

Wow, today’s post is so late. I have two projects to share that I made in response to this week’s Global Design Project design sketch challenge.

For both cards I used the Waves of the Ocean 12″x 12″ Designer Series Paper, Lucky You Stamp Set and Sport Event Dies.

This is the first card – the one that I shared for the challenge.

I started with a Basic White card base and overlay. The overlay panel was attached to the base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The Calypso Coral panel was then stamped images from the Lucky You Stamp Set using Calypso Coral and Pacific Point inks. Then I stamped the sentiments on to a piece of Basic White cardstock and cut it using one of the Sport Events Dies.

I split the ticket apart and attached the two pieces over the stamped panel using Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop them up. Then I tied some white twine, from the Baker’s Twine Essentials Dies, around the panel and tied a knot.

The Calypso Coral panel was attached to the card using dimensionals.

I used the long ticket die, from the Sport Event Dies, to cut some of the Waves of the Ocean DSP, to place above and below the stamped panel. Dimensionals were used to lift them up.

The final step was to add some Rhinestone Waves Basic Jewels to the front of the card.

The second card is a stepped up version.

For this card, I added stamped images to the white panel layer. I also embossed the Calypso Coral layer before adding it to the card front at an angle.

Then I took a length of white baker’s twine and separated all 5 strands before tying a bow. I attached the bow using a Mini Glue Dot.

I love the sentiments in the Lucky You Stamp Set.

Tomorrow is 3D Thursday and I have a super simple gusseted gift bag to share with you.

Until then, happy stamping.

TECHNIQUE TUESDAY – HOW TO CREATE A SUNSET USING MASKING

Masking is such a versatile technique in card making. For this card I used one of the circles, from the Layering Circles Dies, to create the setting sun and then to cover the orb to colour the sky.

The first step was to use the Gentle Waves Stamp, with Smoky SLate ink, to create the waterway for the pylons to emerge from.

I used a large piece of masking paper to cut a circle from the centre. The circle was put to one side and I used the placed the remaining piece where I wanted the sun to set. To make the sun set below the horizon, I placed a strip of Post It tape along the top of the stamped waves.

Using a Blending Brush, I coloured the sun with Pumpkin Pie ink. I removed the masking paper and trimmed the circle mask to match the shape of the setting sun.

To create the sky for the sunset I used Blending Brushes and Mango Melody, Crushed Curry and Bumblebee inks to build the colour.

The Waves Dies were used to cut the pelicon and pylon outline. I added Black Stampin’ Diemnsionals to the back and positioned the die cut piece in front of the sun. Then I added Mango Melody ink below the pylon to cast a shadow (perhaps it should be a dark gray).

I wrapped a length of black twine, from the Baker’s Twine Essential Pack, several times around the stamped layer and tied a bow.

The stamped layer was adhered to the card front.

I cut two more pelican and pylon pieces from Basic Black cardstock and added them to the card insert and envelope.

I haven’t decided on a sentiment yet, but what I choose will go inside the card. What do you think?

BONUS TECHNIQUE TODAY

I made many samples for a recent product presentation and this is a bonus technique card that I am happy to share with you.

After die cutting several of the two waves shapes, from the Waves Dies, I kept the “off cuts”. I used two different containers – one for each of the wave shapes. This made it so much easier to find the matching paper pieces when I went to fill in the wave oultine.

For this slimline card, I adhered a white wave outline and then filled the spaces (paper piecing) with the Coastal Cabana, Pacific Point, Night of Navy and Silver Foil “offcuts” that I had reserved.

For this second slimline card, I adhered a Basic White wave outline to a panel of Basic Black cardstock. For the wave outline I used Adhesive Sheet to secure it to cardstock panel. Then I used the Coastal Cabana, Night of Navy and Pacific Point adhesive backed “offcuts” to fill in the spaces.

These two paper pieced cards also had a dry embossed long layer.

I hope that you enjoy all the techniques I have shared with you today.

Tomorrow I will have another Global Design Project post to share and I also hope to organised enough to have a Freshly Brewed Projects Blog Hop project to share as well.

Until then, happy stamping.
